Final N Brabourne March 26 2023 Womens Premier League

Dhaka, March 26

Rupali Ghosh's strike and Ashmita Kali's all-round skills guide Velocity to their first Women's Premier League title

Velocity clinched their maiden Women's Premier League title with an eight-run victory over Supernovas in a thrilling final at the N Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

Put in to bat, Velocity posted a competitive 153/5 on the back of Rupali Ghosh's 49-ball 61 and Shafali Verma's quickfire 24. Ghosh held the innings together with her gritty knock, while Verma provided the impetus at the top. For Supernovas, Mansi Joshi and Alana King took two wickets each.

In reply, Supernovas fell agonizingly short despite a spirited fightback led by Ashmita Kali. Kali, who had earlier claimed two wickets with her left-arm spin, smashed a valiant 49 off 33 balls. However, her dismissal in the 19th over proved to be the turning point as Supernovas fell 8 runs short of the target.

Kali's efforts with both bat and ball earned her the Player of the Match award. Velocity's Simran Bahadur was named the Player of the Tournament for her consistent performances throughout the tournament.

Velocity's triumph is a testament to their collective effort and resilience. They showed great character to come back from a disappointing start to the tournament and eventually lift the trophy.
