Battles of Lexington and Concord: The Beginning of the American Revolution

The First Shots

On April 19, 1775, the Battles of Lexington and Concord erupted between British Redcoats and colonial militiamen, marking the start of the American Revolutionary War. The battles signaled the growing tension between the American colonists and the British government, and solidified the division between the two.

British Invasion

British authorities, determined to assert their authority, planned to seize colonial military supplies stored in Concord. Their mission brought them into conflict with local militias, who intercepted them at Lexington. The British eventually reached Concord and destroyed some supplies, but faced stiff resistance from the colonists.

American Victory

Despite the British invasion, the battles ended in an American victory. The colonists' resilience and determination forced the British to retreat to Boston, leaving behind a sense of colonial empowerment. The Battles of Lexington and Concord became a turning point in the relationship between the colonies and Britain, ultimately leading to the American Revolution.
